Home Gyms Break the Psychological Barriers of Physical Fitness

By: Edwin M

As with many other barriers in life the largest obstacle to achieving your physical fitness objectives is psychological. In order to put your goals within reach you have got to get real about what is holding you back. There are several psychological obstacles that stand in your path to physical fitness and by taking a realistic look at procrastination, time constraints, personal sensitivity and your workout program you can eliminate 90% of what is keeping you from achieving your fitness goals. Let's examine each one of these obstacles and explore how home gym equipment will allow you to overcome those barriers.

Procrastination - This formidable foe is hidden in everyone's closet and the way you have to deal with it is head on. Procrastination usually arises because of your time schedule. If you put in a full work day where are you going to get the motivation to go to the health club and workout after you get home? And if you do make it to the local gym is this workout schedule really something you will be able to maintain for the long run? Realistically speaking; after your daily commute to work the last thing you want to do when you get home is get back into the car and commute to the local health club! Having a quality set of home gym equipment in your garage, bedroom or exercise room will make it much easier to achieve and to maintain your fitness objectives.

Time constraints - the second major obstacle is closely related to procrastination. Most people do not have time to go to the health club. By owning your own home gyms you have eliminated the need to commute to the club after you get home. On average the commute time to the local gym will take you a minimum of 20 minutes each way. In the same 40 minutes you spent getting there you could have finished your workout and took a hot shower. That doesn't include time spent waiting to use exercise equipment and making yourself presentable; which takes even more time out of your busy schedule. Just put on your sneakers, shorts and a comfortable sweatshirt and get down to business with your own home gym equipment.

Personal sensitivity - this is one area that many people don't want to admit to but it is a reality nonetheless. When you go to the fitness club there will inevitably be people there that are in better shape than you are. Many of them have been working out much longer than you have and are much more serious and advanced in their workout programs. It will be very awkward working out next to someone who is trying to break the bench press world record when your goal is to simply tone up a bit. Or if you are simply sensitive about your looks or you feel uncomfortable working out in a social atmosphere then the health club is not for you and it is very likely an obstacle to achieving your physical fitness objectives! Home gym equipment is an option that you must consider if you are serious about improving your physical health.

Appropriate workout program - the biggest obstacle to your fitness objectives is being realistic about your abilities and where you should start out. If you have never really been serious about physical fitness don't start out with a goal that is out of reach. If you start an overly vigorous workout program it will very likely begin to lose steam after a couple of weeks, especially when it is combined with the obstacles listed above. Start out with small steps and move up the ladder gradually instead of trying to jump ahead all at once. Home gym equipment will help you keep things in perspective because you will be focused on your own exercise objectives and limitations. Once you begin to see some of those pounds drop off and your endurance increase you will have some wind under your wings and your goals will be much more attainable.

There are many obstacles to achieving your fitness goals and we cannot address them all here. However, these four common barriers have been responsible for many workout programs being neglected or abandoned altogether. It's important to do some introspection prior to setting off to reach your fitness objectives. Put your goals within reach by realizing your weaknesses and giving yourself the necessary advantages that you need. Today's home gym equipment is affordable, compact and versatile enough to fit into most any home gym and it is a much needed accessory for the today's fitness programs.
